Esta caminata extendida es la mejor manera de apreciar plenamente la magnitud y la belleza de las cumbres nevadas y lagunas de la Cordillera Huayhuash, incluyendo Yerupajá la segunda montaña más alta del Perú. Este trekking es considerado como una de las más hermosas del mundo.

La Cordillera Huayhuash está ubicada en la sierra central del Peru al sur de la Cordillera Blanca. Cuenta con 7 montañas que superan los 6,000 metros de altura y otras montañas que superan los 5,500 metros entre ellas se encuentra la segunda montaña más alta del Perú el Yerupaja (6,634 m) al igual que el Siula Grande (6,356 m) hecha famoso por el escalador Joe Simpson "Touching the Avoid", entre otras como el Rondoy (5,879 m), Jirishanca (6,094 m), Yerupaja Chico (6,121 m), Sarapo (6,127 m), Carnicero (5,975 m), Trapecio (5,644 m), Diablo Mudo (5,223 m) y el Pumarinri (5,465 m).

Itinerary


Day 01: Huaraz - Chiquian - Llamac - Quartelhuain (4,170 m.)
Transfer by transport to the south of Huaraz, during the journey we will pass through several typical towns and finally we arrive at Quartelhuain where we will set up our first camp.

Day 02: Quartelhuain - Cacananpunta Pass (4,700 m.) - Mitucocha
We leave Quartelhuain heading towards our first pass Cacananpunta, to finally reach the camp in Mitucocha.

Day 03: Mitucocha - Punta Carhuac Pass (4,650 m.) - Laguna Carhuacocha
This day we leave towards the second pass “Punta Carhuac” from where we will have spectacular views of the Siula and Yerupaja snow-capped mountains to finally reach Carhuacocha.

Day 04: Carhuacocha - Siula Pass (4,830 m.) - Huayhuash
This day we will visit the Siula viewpoint “famous for the photography of the Huayhuash where you can see the 3 lagoons; “Quesillococha, Siula and Gangrajanca”.

Day 05: Huayhuash (4,350 m.) - Portachuelo Pass (4,780 m.) - Laguna Viconga (Baños termales Guñog 4350 m.)
This day the hike takes us towards the southern end of the Huayhuash Mountain Range and then ascends to the Portachuelo Pass from where we can appreciate the view of the Raura mountain range. Finally we arrive at the Viconga Lagoon and the thermal baths. "This day we can relax in the hot springs."

Day 06: Baños termales Guñog - Cuyoc Pass (5,050 m.) - Cuyocpampa (4,560 m.) - Antonio viewpoint Pass (5,079 m.)
This day our objective will be to cross the Cuyoc pass, from where we can get splendid views of the snow-capped mountains: Cuyoc, Puscanturpa, Trapecio, Siula, Yerupaja, Sarapo and Jurao.

Day 07: Cuyocpampa (4,560 m.) - Santa Rosa Pass (5,070 m.) - Huayllapa (3,600 m.)
This day we will cross the Santa Rosa pass, the highest point of the hike and then descend to Cutatambo and then head until we reach the town of Huayllapa, a typical town in the region, here it is possible to buy drinks and/or food.

Day 08: Huayllapa (3,600 m snm) – Tapush Pass (4,770 msnm) - Gashpapampa (4,570 m.)
This day we hike uphill towards the Punta Tapush pass (4770 m.), from where we get a panoramic view of the snow-capped Diablo Mudo (5350 m.).

Day 09: Gashpapampa (4,570 m.) – Punta Llaucha Pass (4,850 m.) - Laguna Jahuacocha (4,100 m.)
This day our hike will be towards the Llaucha pass (4,850m) from where we will have an impressive view of the snow-capped mountains: Rondoy, Ninashanca, Jirishanca, Yerupaja Chico, Yerupaja grande, Rasac and Siula.

Day 10: Laguna Jahuacocha - Pampa Llamac Pass (4,300 m.) - Llamac - Huaraz
This last day we will descend through the Huayllan valley passing between ichus and quenuales until we reach the town of Llamac where our transportation awaits us to take us to the city of Huaraz.

What is included:
  • Briefing: Before your trek, you will have a trek briefing at your hotel or our office with your guide and other trekkers in your group.
  • Transportation: From your hotel in Huaraz to the starting point of the trek, and from the end of the trek to your hotel in Huaraz.
  • Equipment: We use the best quality mountain tents (2 people per tent) and personal mat. Single tents are available USD 60. Additional charge
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (option for vegetarians or vegans).
  • All kitchen and dining equipment are provided so that clients to enjoy their meals, including chairs and dishes.
  • Guide: Certified trekking guide (English or Spanish speaking) for another language by request.
  • Cook: Cook trained to prepare varied and healthy dishes.
  • Arriero: In charge of loading the donkeys and driving them. (*)
  • Donkeys: The number of donkeys depends on the size of the group. (*)
  • Duffel bag: that will be with the donkeys while you hike. This bag should not exceed 7kg/15lbs. and needs to include your sleeping bag and personal belongings. During the day you will only carry your daypack with items for personal use.
  • Emergency horse: 1 horse will accompany the group in case of emergency.

  1. Where do the hikes start and end?

  2. The hikes start and end in the city of Huaraz - Ancash.

  3. How to get to Huaraz?

  4. By air: Anta Airport (ATA, Comandante FAP Germán Arias Graziani Airport) is currently only for domestic flights, so all international travelers by air must disembark in Lima and go through customs.

    • The best way to get to Huaraz is by air, currently there is only one airline operating: LATAM.
    • Flight time: 1 hour 10 minutes.
    By land: This is the most common route, with a paved road of 404 km from Lima. Try to book the bus cama service for a more comfortable journey and rest during the trip.

  5. What is the recommended season for trekking in Peru?

  6. The recommended months for the Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash are from May to October. Although the trek can be done all year round, you just need good clothing to protect yourself from the rains.
