DAY 01: HUARAZ - LAGUNA 513 - HUARAZ

• Departure: 6:00 AM from Huaraz, heading towards the city of Carhuaz.
• Travel to the village of Hualcán and continue to the entrance of the Shonquilpampa Valley, the starting point of the hike.
• Hiking: Ascend alongside the Chucchún River to reach Rajupaquinán Lagoon, then continue uphill in a zigzag path to arrive at Laguna 513, located at the base of Mount Hualcán (6,350 m).
• Return: Travel back to Huaraz.

1. What should I bring?

• Light clothing for the day and warm layers for the morning/evening.
• Waterproof jacket or poncho.
• Trekking shoes.
• Sun protection: sunscreen, cap or hat, sunglasses.
• Snacks and water.
• Trekking poles.
• 25-liter day pack recommended for hikes.
• Extra money for personal expenses.

2. How far in advance should I book the program?

We recommend booking at least 5 days before the departure date. However, availability is limited and subject to change, so it’s best to book as early as possible.

3. What is the group size for the hike?

Hikes are organized in groups of 2 to 12 people. However, if you prefer a personalized and exclusive experience, we offer private tours upon request. For more information, contact us at peru-adventures@outlook.com.

4. What is the best season to do the hike?

The ideal season is from May to October. However, the hike can be done year-round; you only need to bring waterproof clothing to protect yourself from the rain.

5. Preparation and Tips

• Fitness: Ensure good physical condition due to the demanding nature of the trek.
• Gear: Pack appropriate clothing for high-altitude trekking, including warm layers, rain gear, and sturdy hiking boots.

6. Restrictions

Not suitable for pregnant women over 6 months.
Not recommended for individuals with heart or knee problems.

7. Where do the hike start and end?

The hike start and end in the city of Huaraz - Ancash.

8. How to get to Huaraz?

By air: Anta Airport (ATA, Comandante FAP Germán Arias Graziani Airport) is currently only for domestic flights, so all international travelers by air must disembark in Lima and go through customs.

• The best way to get to Huaraz is by air, currently there is only one airline operating: LATAM.
  
• Flight time: 1 hour 10 minutes.

By land: This is the most common route, with a paved road of 404 km from Lima. Try to book the bus cama service for a more comfortable journey and rest during the trip.

• We recommend the following companies: CIVA, Movil Bus, Cruz del Sur, Julio Cesar, Linea.
  
• Travel time by bus: 8 hours.
